LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Long Beach city officials welcomed Thursday's opening of Pinnacle at Mariner's Village. The garden style apartments have touches of luxury at an affordable price, something developers say encourages people to reach further.
There is one aspect of the village, however, that sets it apart from any other work force housing. Many of the amenities are designed by physicians to focus on health. Developers say it's the first Optimal Health Community in the nation. |

"The Optimal Health Community means that we're going to actually work with the residents to help them achieve better health by providing better amenities and by helping them be aware of community activities that are going to promote better health," said Dr. John McKee who helped to develop the community.
The housing is designed so that even the busiest person can take advantage of better health. Throughout the campus are exercise stations, just steps from the apartments, and employees can help residents get involved in community activities.
"As a physician, I see the ravages of diabetes and obesity and many of the conditions are preventable. And, that's what we're targeting," said McKee. The complex is complete with a walking trail, splash playground, and even a game room where kids can get active through video games.
Developers suspect that the idea of using a community to promote better health will quickly catch on across the nation.
